August 2, 2021, Merriam-Webster Word of the Day: Exemplary (adj.)

Definition:

1 a : deserving imitation : commendable; also : deserving imitation because of excellence

b : serving as a pattern

2 : serving as an example, instance, or illustration

3 : serving as a warning : monitory


An exemplary winter wind sliced through Bjorn’s form, causing him to shudder severely. “Buh, it’s cold!” He buried gloved fists in his pockets and zipped the jacket up to his chin. Sniffling, he leaned to look toward the tuna vendor to see what he missed.

The man in glasses was gone.

Alarmed, he stepped out for a better look.

“No, wait!” cried a voice behind him, laughingly. “I’m over here!”

The man with glasses set his many bagged purchases on a decrepit bench behind where Bjorn had been leaning against the lamppost. He retained a lone paper bag, which he cradled gently in the crook of one arm, and faced the giant that was Bjorn Rackham. “You must be the new huntsman,” he said.
