Cake Decorating Adventures (part 2)

This is a follow up to Cake Decorating Adventures.

So, yes, I ended up making a cake for my little niece (the one who inspired my venture into cake decorating in the first place). I only had a few days to plan and my only requirement was: it absolutely cannot suck.

Between patients at work, I frantically scribbled ideas on sticky notes that I kept crammed in my scrub’s pockets for two days after which I settled on a single design.

The morning of preparation (her party), I chickened out of that single design and winged it. I resorted to basic/simple techniques I was confident I could pull off and used whatever food coloring and shiny sprinkles I had on hand. (Crunch time is no time to try new stuff!!!)

My icing job was a little rough and I was worried all the little mistakes would add up and look bad, but I worried for nothing. She loved it anyway (OH THANK GOODNESS because I hate to disappoint that amazing child).

P.S. My buddy had a happy birthday!
